Description:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

Amazon Robotics is seeking enthusiastic Applied Scientists with a passion for robotic research. Our team works on challenging and high-impact projects within robotics. Examples of projects include allocating resources to complete a million orders a day, coordinating the motion of thousands of robots, autonomous navigation in warehouses, identifying objects and damage, and learning how to grasp all the products Amazon sells.

Key job responsibilities
• Research, design, implement and evaluate complex perception, motion planning, and decision making algorithms integrating across multiple disciplines and leveraging machine learning.
• Create experiments and prototype implementations of new learning algorithms and prediction techniques.
• Work closely with software engineering team members to drive scalable, real-time implementations.
• Collaborate with machine learning and robotic controls experts to implement and deploy algorithms, such as machine learning models.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineering team members on developing systems from prototyping to production level.
• Represent Amazon in academia community through publications and scientific presentations.
• Work with stakeholders across hardware, science, and operations teams to iterate on systems design and implementation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in uncertainty quantification and probabilistic modeling in the context of robotics to ensure robust decision-making in real world scenarios.
- Experience with design and implementation of algorithms for multi-objective task assignment, conducting A/B/n tests for evaluating performance of different optimization algorithms and strategies
- Expertise in creating algorithms that enable real-time decision making for robotic systems that, e.g., optimize actions based on online data and robust adapt to changing environment scenarios
- Demonstrated ability to integrate continuous learning mechanisms into optimization algorithms in the context of robotic systems
- Experience in developing robust optimization algorithms that are coupled with perception systems in order to ensure reliable and accurate decision making even in the presence of uncertainties

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
