Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Current approvals include the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, (NADCAP), Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company, Boeing Defense and Space, Boeing/Philadelphia, Boeing Long Beach, Grumman, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Goodrich, Bombardier, Cessna and Sikorsky among much else.



Founded in 1976, Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012, and became part of the Aerostructures Division. As a defense contractor Protective Coatings Inc. is registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp and is fully compliant with all relevant facets of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.

Position Summary:
Candidates for a Level 3 Chemical Maintenance Operator position shall possess the skills and knowledge to perform all duties expected of a chemical maintenance operator, and possess the ability to train level one and level two chemical maintenance operators of the same. Level 3 Chemical Maintenance Operators will be expected to perform complete containment and change out of all production chemical tanks, including those with highly reactive and poisonous chemical properties, the ability to formulize production chemical tanks, and perform complete and proper evacuation of chemical holding tanks and production tanks. Level 3 Chemical Maintenance Operators shall be completely competent in proper handling and containment of all dangerous wastes produced in this company’s facility, which include scenarios involving serious environmental or human impact. They shall have a full understanding and operation of the waste water treatment system including root cause analysis of inconsistencies and failures, and the ability to develop preventative maintenance measures or schedules for treatment systems. Candidates of this position must have strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Will require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during certain tasks (goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, hearing protection, etc.) and be expected to comply with all safety directives and policy.
Work independently or as a team member as required by job.
Vapor Degreaser solution change-out and maintenance.
Perform evacuation of production solutions tanks, and supervisor lower level operators of task.
Formulation of production tanks, and supervisor lower level operators of task.
Perform advanced handling of dangerous waste including advanced labeling for out-of-norm waste streams.
Perform Copper strip solution change-out, and supervisor lower level operators of task.
Understanding of the advanced operation of the complete wastewater treatment system, including performance of CAPA (corrective action/preventative action) to resolve inconsistencies or failures.
Will be expected to operate forklift, pallet jacks, wheeled carts, or dollies for the safe loading and unloading of chemicals and dangerous waste.
Perform advanced chemical inventory including recognizing inventory trends and deficiencies, inventory for out-of-norm projects, and assigning RID (recurring identification) numbers.
Operators will be exposed to various production solvent and corrosive chemicals, odors and occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions (indoors), outside weather conditions, and moderate noise level.
Required Skills:

Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Specifically, applicants must be able to read and understand written or verbal instructions.
Understanding of intermediate operation of the wastewater treatment system and knowledge of the four waste streams entering system.
Understanding of advanced operation of the Chrome scrubber, on-site solvent recycler, and on-site WWIX flow-through water system.
Ability to train, monitor and mentor Level 1 and 2 Chemical Maintenance Operators.
Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. using assistive equipment.


Required Experience:



Experience relative to (3) year minimum specific to functions of the Chemical Maintenance department as a Level 2 Chemical Maintenance Operator.
Complete all training requirements, on job training, and achieve passing grades for applicable general, specific and practical exams for Level I and 2 Chemical Maintenance Operator.

General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.
