We are looking for our new Director External Communications and Reputation Continental Europe (CE) to drive forward external communications and stakeholder relations strategies in a coordinated manner that protects and enhances our corporate reputation. You will provide communication and reputation leadership for our teams in Continental Europe. This role requires that you have established networks, media relationships and experience running campaigns that support and enhance our corporate reputation. You will report into our Senior Director, Government and External Affairs and be part of a team that drives a global approach to external affairs and reputation management.

This role will be mostly performed in Belgium, Brussels. You will travel regionally and to our corporate CE headquarters in Lille (Villeneuve d’Ascq) as needed.

This approach has several desired tenets:

Proactive: Identify industry trends and opportunities to advance our corporate reputation and communication practices. Monitor external environment (i.e., media, political, public opinion, business shifts) to get in front of issues and respond effectively.
Consistent: Lead and coordinate with regional Senior Leadership team (and other functions) to ensure a common communications agenda regionally and globally. Anticipate implications of actions / media on other regions.
Collaborative: Cultivate internal and external partnerships to advance a collective agenda with industry associations, trade organizations and NGOs to help effectively convey the company’s message and priorities.
Value-based: Lead efforts to maintain, protect and enhance our company reputation and image. Leverage external communications, showcase company priorities (e.g., sustainability), and support leadership relationships to remove barriers to business and connect with the relevant stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:

You will foster relationships with key media and influencer contacts to ensure McCain has open channels for reactive and proactive external communications.
You will lead and maintain relationships with counterparts across multiple sectors to stay up-to-date on current events, politics and public policy issues across globally.
You will advocate on behalf of the organization, as well as representing the organization at external meetings with various stakeholders and customers.
You will coordinate external global messaging on key/ emerging issues.
You will enhance the reputation and equities of our brand by providing strategic counsel on communications strategies, especially during a crisis.
You will draft communications lines, statements and positions.
Profile:

You have 8+ years’ of experience dealing with media and corporate relations strategies, ideally in a large company or a major, complex institution or leading an international Public Relations agency in the areas of corporate or brand communications.
You have a genuine experience in crafting communications lines and delivering them across media types in different settings.
You have a strong understanding of digital and social media practices and trends.
A background in sustainability and environmental commitments would be considered an asset.
You have a thorough understanding of the political system in the European Union and key national markets, players and process that drive decision making.
You have excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English, additional European languages (French, Dutch, German, etc.) are an asset.
Thanks to your proactive nature, consistent approach, collaborative spirit and value-based decision making you ensure an excellent external communication and reputation management for McCain. You will occasionally serve as a corporate spokesperson as required.
