The role of Director, US Government Relations & Public Affairs is to Develop and implement government relations strategies to grow and defend ABB’s businesses. Ensure ABB’s views are communicated to federal and state policymakers, engage with broader policymaking community, and communicate impacts of government actions to internal stakeholders.
In this role, you will be leading public affairs and thought leadership initiatives, campaigns, and events to build ABB’s brand recognition and industry leadership.

Your responsibilities
Enhances ABB’s brand in the policymaking community as a technology leader in electrification and automation, enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future
Establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders in U.S. Congress, Executive agencies, trade and industry associations, state and local governments, and non-governmental organizations, outside consultants, Washington offices of peer companies, and more
Serves as a primary ABB representative, educator, and lobbyist on policies of importance to ABB at federal, state, and local governments, as well as trade associations and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
Develops and executes federal legislative, regulatory, and executive advocacy strategies to advance and defend ABB market position and priorities
Utilizes a variety of tools to achieve company goals including, but not limited to, personal education and advocacy, white papers; op-eds and articles; social media campaigns; trade shows, conferences or exhibits; thought leadership forums; and ABB-sponsored events
Manages ABB’s official comments on certain regulatory matters and public comment opportunities
Actively monitors, investigates, researches, and analyzes policy developments, regulatory actions, and political environment at the federal, state, and local government levels
Provides advice and counsel to internal ABB stakeholders about policy, regulatory, and political developments that may impact ABB’s businesses, markets, and/or customers
Communicates government activities through regular written, verbal, and virtual updates to internal ABB stakeholders
Your background
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of government related experience and experience with energy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, manufacturing, international trade or technology sector advocacy.
Advanced degree – JD, MBA, Masters in relevant field preferred
3 to 5 plus years of experience on Capitol Hill and/or federal executive agency
3 to 5 plus years of experience lobbying with corporation, trade association or outside policy consulting organization
Strong understanding of corporate communication and reputation management
Excellent communication and facilitation skills that drive action among internal and external stakeholders
Strategic thinking and planning skills to develop short- and long-range integrated strategies
Solutions-oriented mindset, structured, gets things done and on time
Interested in the business and driven by contributing to company success; strong business acumen
Consensus-builder with ability to bring people together to achieve a goal
Problem-solver with demonstrated experience managing projects within complex organizations
Extensive knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes
Experience in government compliance
Motivated self-starter able to work independently
Experience in coalition lobbying
Demonstrated research, analytical, and writing skills
Ability to work well with all levels of government, ABB’s decentralized businesses, trade associations and public interest groups
Ability to represent ABB’s positions with authority and persuasion
Ability to adapt to changing subject advocacy
Proficiency in social media, Keen political instincts and Highest ethical standards
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
