The role reports to the Research Department Manager and is located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Your responsibilities
Conduct literature survey and benchmarking to assess the state of art methods for a given problem
Actively participate in applied research activities in the area of home automation technologies, resulting in proofs of concept and prototypes
Contribute to the promotion of the application of home automation technologies within ABB’s customer industries, and develop prototype solutions using real-world home automation devices
Your background
Currently enrolled in a degree program in the US
Must be currently authorized to work for ABB in the US
PhD or Master’s student in Electrical Engineering
Knowledge and experience with home automation (e.g., Home Assistant or open HAB) and IoT technologies in general
Knowledge and experience with embedded systems and communications gateways/devices, and methods to integrate these technologies together
Knowledge of home automation and IoT-based communication protocols, such as Modbus, MQTT, and BACnet
Knowledge of EV charging technologies, including chargers with communication protocols such as OCPP and ISO 15118
Willingness to quickly acquire in-depth knowledge of new technologies and application domains
