Description:

The ideal individual will be expected to play an active role in not just maintaining, but strengthening PA’s litigation strategy and management, legal dispute avoidance strategy and management, candid legal incident response capabilities. This should include a rigorous early case assessment process, skills building in legal incident response support, a hands on approach with outside counsel, close oversight of budgets and spend, maintenance and cultivation of relationships with business and functional leaders across the company, effective leverage of use of litigation management tools and dashboards, creative use of alternative fee arrangements, growth and development of team members in litigation capability across the PA Legal & Integrity team in collaboration with Division and Regional Legal Counsels and more.


Your responsibilities
Proactive management and oversight of global PA litigation portfolio including initial assessment of all litigation, potential and filed, for risk and exposure, for appropriate assignment with in house legal colleagues for collaborative management and outside counsel for handling
Future proofing PA from future litigation, disputes and claims
Periodic evaluation of pending litigation, products and activity for risk and exposure and advice to management about these issues
Lead PA Legal & Integrity role and skills building on legal aspects of incident response inclusive of cyber, in collaboration with PA and Group colleagues
Oversight of PA related government investigations in collaboration with PA and Group colleagues
Selection and management of outside counsel, including internal management of discovery activity, review of significant pleadings and participation in strategic planning and associated budget and cost management
Review and implementation of best practices around litigation management, including strategies for managing, resolving and avoiding future claims, matter management, the use of technology, alternative billing arrangements and the strategic selection of counsel
Review of claims activity as appropriate
Familiarization with industry issues that present litigation risk relevant to PA
Written and oral reports to the PA GC and PA management team regarding relevant matters and recent developments
Special projects related to a wide variety of matters and issues
Retention and supervision of outside experts in connection with attorney client privileged projects
Your background
Hold a Juris Doctor and/or LLM (Master of Laws) from a US ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law school and be a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in either civil or common law jurisdictions, with 10 years Post Qualified Experience (PQE)
Private practice trained, possess relevant experience in house expertise in the heavy industry, critical infrastructure, extractives and/or marine sectors
Expertise in litigation management as prior Head of Litigation/Litigation Responsible, with fluency in digital and cyber risks and associated legal incident response
Possess strong leadership skills and multiple years of experience managing in house senior legal counsel and leaders, as well as outside counsel, globally and remotely
Expertise and experience with complex commercial and antitrust litigation and labor and employment matters within a similar or related industry
Strong project management/negotiation skills
Ability to work independently, make decisions quickly and communicate effectively
Excellent research and drafting skills
Expert verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to impact and successfully persuade others
Knowledge of current and emerging technology platforms for efficiently and effectively managing claims, matters and outside counsel
Strong critical thinking and analysis skills, with ability to provide alternative approaches and solutions
Results oriented with ability to deliver within a fast paced, execution oriented environment
Holds self and others accountable to meet and exceed expectations and to deliver business results
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
