Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Current approvals include the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, (NADCAP), Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company, Boeing Defense and Space, Boeing/Philadelphia, Boeing Long Beach, Grumman, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Goodrich, Bombardier, Cessna and Sikorsky among much else.
Founded in 1976, Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012, and became part of the Aerostructures Division. As a defense contractor Protective Coatings Inc. is registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp and is fully compliant with all relevant facets of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
Position Summary:
The Level 3 Maintenance Technician shall be familiar with all operating systems including; shot peening machinery and equipment maintenance, paint component mixing systems, HVAC systems, air compressors and dryers, and rectifier systems, to name a few. Maintenance technicians at this level will be expected to perform welding applications such as stick, MIG and TIG welding, and will provide for special tooling concepts and fabrications. Other responsibilities will include maintenance and installation of monitoring and control equipment such as temperature controls, metering systems, and electrical heating and timer systems for production tanks. A Level 3 Maintenance Technician will be expected to mentor and train lower level technicians, facilitate, and give direction for the Maintenance department based on production needs. Candidates must have the ability and desire to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced production environment, be resourceful and innovative along with presenting a strong business ethic and compliance to leadership and company policies, and a good communicator with the ability to represent the company in a positive manner.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Wear and maintain proper personal equipment (PPE), and follows all safety procedures.
Safely operates facilities equipment such as power tools, hoists, cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
Complete knowledge and maintenance of entire facilities systems including; powder coating system, In-line paint mixing system, vapor degreaser, solvent distiller system, HVAC systems, plating/anodize rectifier systems, processing tank electric heater and timer systems, shot peen machines, and NDT on-demand hot water system.
Operation of production facilities equipment including: ovens, dryer and oven controls, immersion tanks and controls, air compressors, and paint booths and make-up air units.
Orders and inventories materials, tools, accessories, and parts to support production facility departments, machinery, and equipment.
Rack and special tooling fabrication.
Performs Stick, MIG and TIG welding.
Operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
Performs equipment maintenance on such items as air compessors
Performs plumbing and maintenance to facilities water piping systems.
Knowledge and performance of electrical work to facilities and machinery.
Perform repairs and service maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Studies production schedules, and estimates repair and work completion to better schedule around production.
Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
Will at times require heavy lifting or use of mechanical hoist for the aid in lifting objects.
Operators will be exposed to various cleaning and production chemicals/odors and occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions (indoors), outside weather conditions, and moderate noise level.
Operators will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.
Required Skills:

Understanding of complete Facilities layout including; waste treatment pumps and mixers, plating and anodize tank plumbing and rinse water systems, facilities electrical panels and feeders, and overhead sprinkler water systems.
Systems familiarity of entire facility which include: dust collection systems, chemical fume scrubbers, chemical tank chiller system, abrasive blast systems, powder coating system, In-line paint mixing system, vapor degreaser, solvent distiller system, HVAC systems, plating/anodize rectifier systems, processing tank electric heater and timer systems, shot peen machines, and NDT on-demand hot water system.
