This position will lead the Production Planning group for the Richmond Chemical Plant that produces process chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized life science products. In this role, you will be key to safely and efficiently meeting the current and future manufacturing commitments for a growing key business for Bio-Rad.
In this role, you will be responsible for all Production Planning activities for the various product lines that are manufactured on-site and for subcontracted parts that are managed by the site. The Richmond Chemical plant has over 2000 SKUs, and complex batch production processes that runs over multiple work centers in a single process order. You will directly plan some processes or work centers and will also oversee planning activities and supervision of the other two site planners. You will act as primary interface for the Global Supply Planning Team and will work with multiple on-site teams to meet customer demands via efficient and timely planning and monitoring of execution of the production plan.
How You'll Make An Impact:
Identify and maintain mid and long term production plans that serve as the foundation for raw material, staffing/equipment, capital, outsourcing plans and schedules (MPS / MRP). Utilize forecasts, direction from Global Supply Planning and understanding of supply and plant constraints to optimize plans. Review plans & schedules in the rough-cut capacity stage and respond in advance to demand greater than available capacity and level load time as needed.
Understand plant capacities and constraints with the ability to articulate related insights to cross functional stakeholders. Accurately maintain the appropriate planning parameters for capacity, resources, work centers, and shop calendar to generate scheduling recommendations.
Establish and maintain production schedules ensuring work orders are sequenced to meet on-time delivery using input from plant functions and by evaluating scheduling alternatives to determine options and preferred solutions.
Proactively monitor potential conflicts and rectify bottleneck areas that may cause delays and promptly respond to demand and operational changes to support customer deliveries.
Generate daily, weekly, and monthly scheduling related metrics and reporting to measure performance to plan. Summarize and communicate conclusions generated from these reports and recommend improvements.
Manage product lifecycle projects for new, existing, and discontinuing products to ensure product availability and to minimize scrap via communications on status and issues with Production, Procurement, Supply Planning, Engineering, R&D, QC, and Division Marketing.
Drive and identify initiatives to optimize and achieve targeted inventory. Analyze inventory movement / trends for optimum utilization, identify safety stock levels, optimum batch size, process capacity & efficiency, and analyze excess and obsolete materials for disposition.
Hire, manage, evaluate performance, and develop team members via assignment of work, setting performance expectations, assigning priorities, and monitoring the output of individual schedules for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Drive continuous improvement within department to optimize workflows and actively support site Lean journey through identification of opportunities, data analysis and participation in site or business level continuous improvement events.
What You Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Product Supply Management, or related discipline.
Work Experience: 4+ years of production planning and scheduling experience and 5+ years manufacturing production experience, preferably in a regulated environment. APICS CPIM certification a plus.
1-2 years of personnel supervisory experience desirable. Experience developing employees & building high performing teams. Other experience leading projects or management of programs is also desirable.
Thorough understanding of planning processes, and supply and demand principles. Ability to develop models to maximize plant productivity through constrained work centers.

Strong computer skills with working knowledge of MSOffice programs and an ERP system. SAP experience is a plus.

Compensation: The estimated annual salary for this position is $99,700 to $137,100 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
