Reporting to the head of the Engineering Department, the incumbent has technical responsibility for a portfolio of electrical installation products for the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. He (She) ensures the conformity and maintenance of the products according to the codes and standards applicable on the market. In addition, he (she) leads the projects for the development of new products that meet customer needs.
Your responsibilities
Manage and draw up the functional specifications of the existing products that are part of his portfolio (specifications):
Maintain the performance and ensure the safe operation of the products.
Review the design of the products with the project team.
Validate the design: prototyping, certification, and product testing plan.
Adapt products according to the new certification requirements for the codes and standards.
Develop new products to meet the needs of the market:
Participate in creativity sessions.
Support product managers in market research.
Act as a technical leader for development.
Establish a budget for design and proof of concept.
Plan and conduct design reviews.
Provide deliverables as defined in the design process.
Participate in the industrialization of new products.
Carry out the transfer of documentation to the operations and service groups.
Carry out post-mortem studies on projects.
Document the products:
Define the quality criteria and the documentation necessary for the supply of the components and materials.
Produce final drawings, data sheets, reports, and engineering BOMs documenting product design, validation, and
certification.
Support innovation upstream:
Participate in strategic reviews for the marketing of the products.
Research project opportunities and conduct preliminary studies for the feasibility of development projects.
Provide technical support for sales, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing.
Undergraduate education in mechanical
electrical
or industrial engineering. A minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering for a manufacturing company. Knowledge of the design
prototyping
and validation processes for the development of new products (FMEA
functional analysis
etc.). Skilled with design tools and software. Training in project management (an asset). Familiar with the manufacturing processes: machining
molding
etc. (an asset). Analytical mind (essential). Structured
disciplined
and organized. Team spirit and communication skills. Sense of creativity and entrepreneurship.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering for a manufacturing company.
