Amazon Transportation is seeking a talented, self-directed software engineer to design and code algorithms, and find new ways to improve middle mile analytics to optimize the Customer experience within the Sort Tech team. Sort Tech’s technology and services powers every package to move throughout the Amazon network. We enable across Associates and Robotics, and support the worldwide transportation network across Fulfillment Centers, Sort Centers, Air Gateways and more. We also build visibility platforms that enable operations managers to monitor and refine their volume and staffing, and optimize their operational processes. Key job responsibilities
As an engineer in Sortation Services you will provide technical experience to the team, drive best practices, mentor other engineers and drive continuous improvements in engineering and operational excellence.
In this role you will:
*Write high-quality, efficient and testable code
Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a microservice architecture.
*Collaborate with some of the best engineers in the industry to work on complex challenges in large-scale computing and find out what it takes to engineer systems at “Amazon Scale”
*Own and operate the systems that you build based on real-time customer data.
*Contribute and drive planning, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as a member of an Agile team.

Contributing to the coding, architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems. Work as mentor and tech for an project engineering team
About the team
The Plan and Sort org owns package movement from SLAM to container build for Fulfillment Centers and Inbound to Container Build for Sort Centers and Air Hubs. Our team minimizes the variability and mistakes in the manual process. We use machine learning and Data Science to get the optimize process paths, maximum utilization of HW resources, proper prioritization of incoming packages volumes. Our systems process millions of packages a day and ensure Amazon meets the customer delivery promise. Our mission is to build the most efficient and optimal transportation system on the planet using our engineering muscle as our biggest advantage.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
