TITLE: Control Center Operator

SCOPE: Control Center Operators are responsible for protecting the State of Michigan’s buildings, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters, as well as providing outstanding customer service. Observe and Report. The primary aim of the control center is to train a highly professional individual and give the control center staff greater scheduling flexibility to accomodate the team. The control center operator may be offered additional hours outside the control center based on their availability, however a high degree of scheduling flexibility is required for this very crucial role.

A Successful Control Center Operator Will
Be computer literate and able to use standard office software.
Dress professionally and have excellent personal hygiene and grooming standards.
Have excellent customer service and phone skills.
Be capable of remaining calm in emergencies and able to de-escalate situations.
Be commited to working with the team and studying and applying all post guidelines and job duties with a high level of accuracy.
Be able to pay meticulous attention to detail.

PAY RATE: Qualified applicants for the Control Center Operator position can expect to make $19.60/hr while working in the Central Control Room. This position is a hybrid between a building complex Security Officer position and the Control Center Operator position. A $17/hr rate applies while working at the government complex outside of the control center. This rate will increase to $18/hr after the candidate has completed one full year of work at the complex.

Schedule

Control Center Operators are expected to be available for call ins 24/7, however primary hours will be overnights and afternoons including weekends and holidays. Normal working hours throughout the complex outside the control center vary by shift, but typically run from 0700-1730 (7 AM to 5:30 PM) on weekdays for most positions, with other shifts available on evenings and weekends.

Follow and enforce site specific post guidelines.
Specific Duties (Based on Post Guidelines)
Guard Posts – Static post at access points, doorways, building lobbies, reception areas, etc. Check for employee and vendor identifications. Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
Foot Patrols – Walk interior and exterior of the site to check that entrances, doors, windows, and vents are locked and secure against break-ins. Document security, safety, and maintenance issues.
Remote Monitor – Monitor surroundings on closed-circuit television, allow/deny site access with remote access control.
Vehicle Patrols – Some sites require driving a vehicle to patrol sections of that site.
Reports – Computer or paper-based documentation of shift activity, incidents, patrols, or other site-specific reports.
Communication – De-escalate situations while effectively communicating rules and policies.
Response – May provide first aid or other medical treatment in emergency situations. Facilitate for First Responders, crime/fire/medical, with emergency situations that may occur on site.
Other – Duties that may be client or site unique.

Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
Must have either a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must be of good moral character and have the ability to pass a criminal backgroundcheck including any sealed or juvenille records, with no felony convictions, and no misdemeanor convictions for criminal sexual conduct or related offenses, theft, assault, illegal substances, multiple alcohol related offenses, or crimes of moral turpitude, is required.
Must be able to successfully pass a drug test at the time of hire and annually thereafter.
Must present a friendly, positive, professional image, adhering to our Appearance and Grooming policy.
Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be able to read and write in the English language and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions and reports.
Intermediate computer skills required – Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, and able to learn new software.
Must have reliable transportation.
Driving Qualifications - Must have a clean driving record with less than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, less than 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years, and no other major violations in the last 3 years.
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically and mentally sound.
Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Must be able to reach with hands and arms, and to hold objects.
Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for 8-12 hour shifts, including walking long distances, and possibly up and down stairs.
Must be readily able to respond to emergency situations.
Must be able to work in or outdoors during all seasons.
Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
