Responsible for collaborating with senior IT management in developing the principles and guidelines for the future-state IT architecture in alignment with the strategic goals of the company. Assists senior management with definition of the framework and overarching goals that guide the development of roadmaps that define how the application architecture will transition towards the desired future state. This position also assists with the development of technology guidelines that govern the assessment of purchase-candidate applications/software and make-versus-buy software decisions. Additional activities include: review of software design and implementation plans to ensure compliance with enterprise-architecture strategy, providing guidance to systems analysts and software architects in technology and architecture decisions, and review of system test plans for complex implementations that impact multiple application systems. May also act as project lead and/or systems analyst for large or complex strategic projects.
Ensures that the Enterprise Architecture aligns with industry direction and best practices
Assists application designers with the development of application architectures that follow our enterprise guidelines and effectively address functional application requirements
Ensures Enterprise Architecture strategy conforms with strategic corporate goals
Develops guidelines to assist with application software purchases and ensures that they fit into the Enterprise Architecture
Reviews the design of in-house and sub-contracted developed applications to ensure that they conform to the Enterprise Architecture
Ensures that strategic decisions (corporate goals, internal controls, systems architecture, approved software, system reusability) are not circumvented for tactical convenience
Develops and fosters close working relationships with project managers and project personnel from the I.S. Planning, Systems Management and Customer Service departments
Develops and fosters close working relationships with key LOB stakeholders, such as mangers, LOB project-managers/engineers, Key-Account managers and other senior/lead subject matter experts
Proactively identifies areas within the Enterprise Architecture that should be upgraded or enhanced to improve the effectiveness of the overall organization
Produces and maintains high-level systems and architecture documentation/artifacts such as:
Diagrams of current state architecture and systems-integration
Diagrams of future state architecture and systems-integration
Definition of approaches to get from current to future state (Roadmaps)
Interacts with technology vendors and industry groups to understand the global business environment and apply this knowledge to help guide our application development activities
Maintains current knowledge of IT trends and emerging technologies
Educates others within the I.S. organization on industry trends and on relevant new/emerging technologies
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business with strong software development background or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with strong business application development background or equivalent related work experience that provides in-depth knowledge and exposure to software development.
Experience:
6+ years of experience in designing enterprise-level applications supporting the manufacturing industry. 4+ years of experience in programming of business-functionality, system-integration and user-interfaces for multiple LOB-areas and in multiple applications. 3+ years of experience as a Senior Systems Analyst. 2+ years of experience in a Lead role. 5+ years of experience in enterprise architecture.
Skills/Knowledge:
Business skills will include strong business-knowledge of multiple areas of manufacturing organizations (e.g. Production, Engineering, Customer Service, Finance, Marketing, Distribution & Logistics, etc.); excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with all levels of the organization; ability to work within and lead a team; ability to influence others; conflict/resolution skills.
Technical skills will include knowledge of what applications exist in the environment and what sort of data each system needs and stores; understanding of the key technologies used to develop applications, components and databases, including knowledge of relative strengths and weaknesses of the different technologies; knowledge of workflow-management, service oriented architecture, n-tiered application development, mainframe systems, system-integration, business process management, data-modeling and transaction-processing; prototype development to validate technical ideas.
