Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role is responsible for creating software solutions that help test and develop satellite flight hardware, holding the gate to flight readiness. This is a highly collaborative position that interfaces with Project Kuiper engineering, production, and IT teams.
Key job responsibilities
- System Design and Analysis: Analyze business requirements and specifications to design automation and integrated systems that aid in the testing and development of satellite hardware and manufacturing processes.
- Hardware and Software Integration: Integrate mechanical components, automation controls, electronics, sensors, and software systems to aid in the delivery of hardware test and development solutions. You will develop software that interacts with multiple systems, from flight hardware to production management.
- Programming: Develop, configure and deploy software solutions that automate test execution and the post processing of complex data to determine viability of flight hardware. You will help accelerate the analysis and management of data used to test and develop satellite hardware.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including teams in Production Operations, IT and Digital Operations. You will help integrate innovative development test systems with manufacturing software systems.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all integrated systems comply with internal IT and Security standards, with designs and code that is well-documented and version controlled. You will contribute to the overall architecture for a high-performing, connected, safe and maintainable factory.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position that takes on ambiguous problems. You will work with leaders in multiple technology areas across Project Kuiper to define and develop controls and automation systems that accelerate the satellite test and development process. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimates, and scheduling. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality, and cost. We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
About the team
This team is organized within the satellite mechanical design team to accelerate the design iteration process and ensure on-time delivery of the most stable and successful product possible. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on new and exciting responsibilities as required to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to complex problems that are driving the design, identify the scope of the issue, and quickly establish functional solutions able to be tested and integrated into the design. You’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost.
