Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in Laurel, MT. We are looking for Senior Process Engineer to work with a team to prepare designs, specifications, start-up assistance, and support for refinery. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering activities required to support facility design, process control configurations, and daily unit operations.
Able to read, review, and approve P&ID drawings and responsible for walking down drawings and keeping them up to date.
Apply sound engineering judgment in selecting and applying engineering methods to solve plant issues.
Generate and implement technical recommendations to improve refinery operational performance along with safety, environmental, reliability, and economic objectives.
Must be able to write/issue technical reports on regular basis. Reports could include tracking catalyst life and performance, unit energy/mass balances, feed and product composition/specification analysis review.
Support/lead design analysis, unit modifications and resolution of technical unit constraints utilizing engineering principles.
As assigned, perform owner acceptance reviews of process and equipment design packages developed by internal or third-party engineering firms. Support leadership and coordination of engineering projects to ensure effective implementation.
Participates in MOCs, PHAs and PSM audits as necessary and completes assigned safety action items.
Work with catalyst/chemical vendors in tracking and reviewing catalyst/chemical performance and help select most viable catalyst/chemical options that optimize performance and profitability.
Foster an environment of open communication, problem resolution, and stewardship.
Perform equipment performance rating, monitoring, and analysis of equipment failures during facility operation.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry codes and industry standards.
Apply industrial safety practices in the performance of all field duties. Identify areas for performance and process improvements.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of other engineering disciplines and how to interface effectively across all functional group within the refinery.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Specify and troubleshoot control safety system instruments, control valves, and two-state valves.
Demonstrates creativity in applying engineering standards and specifications to support Refinery Processing Engineering Group on instrumentation design, installation, and modification of instrumentation systems in the refinery.
Support refinery turnaround and major maintenance events.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
4+ years’ experience in process engineering or related field
Additional Qualifications
6+ years’ experience in process engineering or related field strongly preferred
Technical understanding and experience with refinery processes (thermodynamics, unit operations, hazard and risk assessment, and process control)
Working knowledge of applicable Engineering Standards, Specifications, National Codes, and Industry Best Practices applicable to the Refining Industry.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook)
Working knowledge of electrical systems
Working knowledge of control systems
Knowledge of process simulation software
Knowledge of data analysis techniques, root cause analysis tools and applications
