The City of Auburn Engineering division is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our team. This opportunity will allow you to be a part of a diverse team.
This position performs professional-level, technical engineering, and senior management work within the Engineering Division with responsibility for leading the full range of programmatic and engineering functions of the City’s transportation system.
Primary Duties
In this role, you and the current Sr. Traffic Engineer will:
Lead the development, implementation, updating, and adoption of the following, as assigned; Transportation Improvement Program, Comprehensive Transportation Plan, Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, Local Road Safety Plan, Safety Priority Index System (SPIS), and the transportation section of the Capital Facilities Plan.
Oversee right-of-way management activities including franchise and public way agreements with other utilities and telecommunication companies, right-of-way use permits, right-of-way vacations, and the adopt-a-street program.
Oversee the operation of the City’s intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic signals, school zone flashing beacons, and rapid rectangular flashing beacons.
Review development activity applications, plans, and reports to make recommendations to the City Engineer regarding required public improvements and requirements to convert overhead wiring to underground.
Maintain communications with the public through local media and personal contact concerning transportation matters; attend appropriate public meetings and make presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, Hearing Examiner, Transportation Advisory Board, Transportation Benefit District, public agencies, and other civic groups; ensures staffing is provided for regional forums as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
AND
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering, planning and transportation system operations, including two (2) years of supervisory experience in an engineering environment.
OR
a combination of education, training and experience that would indicate ability to complete the work responsibilities listed above.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Possess and retain a valid Washington State Driver's License during tenure of employment, without impending loss at time of appointment.
Current State of Washington Professional Engineer license OR Professional Engineering license from another state and the ability to secure a Washington Professional Engineering license with 6 months of hire date.
