Containers have become the de-facto method of packaging and running applications. Does the idea of innovating in this foundational technology energize you? Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will be part of a two-pizza team in an org of 30+ engineers. As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

* Be very hands-on; work with the engineering team to manage the day-to-day development activities by leading architecture decisions, participating in designs, design review, code review, and implementation
* Help establish technical direction, foster team culture, grow junior engineers and deliver exciting features to internal and external customers
* Serve as a key technical resource in the full development cycle, from conception to delivery and maintenance. The best candidates show true end-to-end ownership
* Have the opportunity to impact and influence a wide range of teams across Containers/EC2 orgs



A day in the life
You will have the opportunity to work in a Greenfield project and take active part in end-to-end Software Development Lifecycle.

* Design and implement distributed systems that delight our customers. You will also learn how things are built and deployed in AWS, brush up on operational excellence, and apply it on the job!
* Work with the teams at Amazon to lead and deliver innovations in foundational container technologies
* Collaborate with other engineers towards broader organizational goals and projects
* Collaborate with product and program managers, principal engineers for feature definition and delivery
* Work with a variety of AWS teams such as EC2, EKS, ECS to build innovative solutions that can run at scale and create value for our customers who need to run their containerized applications
* Stay aware of developments in the container space and upstream community projects * Contribute to technical designs



About the team
The team is part of broader Serverless Containers org and is responsible for building innovative solutions in the containers space that address customer pain points with running containers in AWS. We are in the early stage of innovation and offers great opportunity to contribute to foundational elements of the solution. We are growing in 2024 and beyond to build, deliver meaningful features/capabilities to our customers.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Knowledge of working with containers, container runtimes, orchestrators will be a plus
- Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems, preferably on a Unix or Linux platform
- Rust, Go, Java programming languages

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
