Description:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Functions as an Surgical Assistant
Anticipates next move in completion of patients surgery
Performs well with multiple instrumentation and equipment
Assist in room set up and turn over
Responds to a constantly changing assignment in a professional manner
Display safety consciousness in all activities in the Operating Room.
Provides care in a compassionate caring manner.
Assists other team members without being asked.
Assist the Operating Room Leadership with cost effective methods in surgical procedures, participates in evaluations of products and their efficacy.
Makes suggestions for process improvements.
Makes recommendations for equipment/product standardization.
Performs other related duties as assigned




Minimum Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma or GED required
Experience

1-2 years Experience of proficiency in the role of a surgical technologist for major surgeries required
1-2 years Successful experience as a CST/CFA F preferred
Licenses and Certifications

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification Certification in BCLS required
Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical First Assist required
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Qualifications for a CST/CFA should include but not limited to: Certification in CST/CFA. preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers.

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Ability of documentation of proficiency in the role of a scrub technologist for major surgeries.
Ability to apply principles of asepsis and infection control.
Ability and knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and operative technique for all operative procedures in which the Surgical Assistant is required for.
Ability to behave appropriately in stressful and emergent situations.
Ability to recognize safety hazards and initiate corrective action.
Demonstrates knowledge in proper exposure techniques.
Demonstrates excellence in suturing and closing of surgical sites.
Demonstrates knowledge of new technology.
Demonstrates tact when dealing with difficult personality.
Demonstrates effective means of hemostasis.
Demonstrates confidential demeanor when dealing with patient information.
