Position Summary

We are looking for a Sweet Potato Intern to join us for a 4-8 month period, starting in May 2024.



This position will be based out of the Mississippi/Arkansas growing region, with travel to the Plover Wisconsin campus and other Sweet Potato growing regions.



This opportunity will help you gain an understanding of North American Sweet Potato production practices and expose you to the general operations of a commercial Agriculture department.



The Team
Each member of our team has special aspects of the business they are responsible for, from raw scheduling to grower relations to storages. There is so much to learn and grow and we love teaching you what we do!



What You Will Be Working On

As our Intern, you will be assisting to research and analyze data on various Ag economics projects. Your tasks may include:

Analyze cost of production
Investigate pest/disease management practices within the local area
Statistical evaluation to identify best practices and data trends
Track loading out of raw from your region with truck status updates and quality updates
Track and evaluate McCain varieties and their performance in the factory
Promote relations between the company and growers through periodic farm and storage visits
Assist with raw product alignment and scheduling activities
Other projects as assigned


What You Will Learn

From your first day, you are a full member of the Agriculture team and can see firsthand how our potatoes are grown and processed, from farm to fork. You will collaborate with the Agronomy, Field and Production staff as they make presentations and work directly with growers. Some experiences include:

Conducting variety trials
Supply Chain Start to End
Disease and insect mapping
Hands on experience with technologies used in today’s agricultural environment


What You Need to be Successful

We’re looking for a student who wants to apply their coursework in Agronomy, Ag Economics, Business Management or a closely related field to the food processing industry. Our ideal intern brings:

Analytical skills to see patterns and trends in data
Communication skills to work with stakeholders inside and outside the organization
Self-reliance and resourcefulness to work smarter, not just harder
An ability to set realistic goals while focusing intently on a project
Confidence in a fast-paced environment
Computer skills in MS Office
A strong work ethic
A valid driver’s license, be comfortable driving a full-size pick-up truck, be prepared to work outdoors
